En un futuro muy cercano, por la piel de las mujeres infértiles podrán obtenerse huevos. Los ratones pueden producir óvulos de iPS , huevos que pueden ser fertilizados y producir descendencia fértil . También se demostró que los ratones, a los cuales se trasplantan en los túbulos seminíferos las células madre pluripotentes inducidas (iPS) (obtenidas a partir de la piel de los hombres que no pueden producir esperma), producen esperma humano. La necesidad de emplear ratones como biorreactores se acabará pronto y el proceso de génesis de los gametos se llevarán a cabo in vitro. Estos estudios sugieren la posibilidad de derivar incluso óvulos de la piel de los hombres y el esperma de la piel de las mujeres, gametos de las personas senescentes , descendientes de un mismo individuo o de individuos del mismo sexo. Estos gametos artificiales se pueden usar para el tratamiento de la infertilidad.
